Juventus defeated AS Monaco 1-0 on aggregate to advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2003.
Juve defeated Monaco 1-0 last week in Torino on a Vidal penalty. La Vecchia Signora traveled to Monaco on Wednesday night to play the return leg with a slight advantage.
Monaco controlled most of the play in the first half although they didn't create any real significant opportunities. Carlos Tevez had a long range strike that went just wide before the stroke of half-time.
Monaco started the 2nd half very brightly, pressing high but were unable to create any real clear cut chances. Juve looked slow on the ball and misplaced way too many passes. Late in the match Andrea Pirlo hit a freekick from about 30 yards that dipped and skimmed the top of the crossbar. Monaco were unable to break through Juve's formidable defense, which resulted in another clan sheet for Buffon.
Juventus will receive around €10 million for making it to the semi-finals of Europe's most prestigious competition. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the other semi-finalists. Juventus will surely have a tough task in the next round but I believe they have enough quality to put up a good fight and possibly advance to the final if they play well.
Who would've thought Max Allegri would have won Juve's 4th successive Scudetto, have them in the Coppa Italia final and the Champions League semi-final. He's been able to use 3 different formations this season and deserves credit for continuing what Antonio Conte started.
Juventus are now amongst the European giants, where they want to be. Now it's time for them to show that they belong there.
